Human Race

The Human Race

The Human race (Homo sapiens), a sentient and bipedal species, holds dominion over the 120 to 150-degree range of the galactic ecliptic. Esteemed as one of the galaxy’s most ancient civilizations, Humanity has played a decisive role in shaping the annals of the known universe. Despite their comparatively brief lifespans and delicate physiology, Humans have attained interstellar travel, founded colonies across the galaxy, and made indelible contributions to the cultural, scientific, and political fabric of the galactic community.

Origins and History

The genesis and evolution of Humanity remain enshrouded in mystery, with historians estimating the species’ age to be between 900,000 and 1.1 million years. Their ancestral homeworld, Earth, has been lost to the ages, spawning countless expeditions in search of the fabled Treasures of Earth.

What is known is that approximately 600,000 years before the Galactic Era (BGE), Humanity departed their cradle and ventured into the stars. As one of the earliest spacefaring civilizations, they rapidly expanded across the galaxy, establishing colonies and encountering younger races. This epoch of cooperation and progress, known as the Ancestral Era, saw Humanity ascend to the role of galactic caretaker, guiding the development of nascent civilizations within their domain. It was during this golden age that Humanity engineered marvels such as the Great Ring of Shikar, among countless other wonders.

Yet, this era of enlightenment met a cataclysmic end during the Great Collapse of 5000 BGE. The precise cause remains obscured by the fragmentary nature of surviving records, but it is evident that the Human-led galactic order disintegrated. One by one, Human colonies fell into ruin, until only scattered remnants of their civilization endured. The largest of these surviving groups clung to the fractured remnants of the Shikar Ring, reduced to a primitive state. Physical and Psychological Traits

Humans are carbon-based lifeforms characterized by a bilaterally symmetrical body structure. They possess a highly developed brain, granting them self-awareness, creativity, and profound emotional depth. While their physical endurance is modest compared to other species, their resilience and tenacity often compensate for these limitations. Humans are omnivorous, capable of metabolizing a wide array of organic matter, and require a balanced intake of water, oxygen, and nutrients to sustain life.

Psychologically, Humans are distinguished by their insatiable curiosity, boundless ambition, and capacity for both altruism and conflict. Their emotional spectrum is vast, encompassing profound empathy and intense aggression, traits that have historically driven both their greatest triumphs and most devastating conflicts. This duality has rendered them both revered and feared by other galactic species.

Psionics

Historical records suggest that psionic abilities once existed among Humans, though no psionic individual has been documented in millennia. Some scholars posit that the loss of this genetic trait may have precipitated the Great Collapse, though this remains a subject of debate.

Technological and Cultural Achievements

Humanity is celebrated more for the technological feats of their ancestors than for their contemporary accomplishments. The galaxy is strewn with relics of the Ancestral Empire, from technological marvels to architectural wonders, which command exorbitant prices in interstellar markets. The present-day Human civilization, the Shikar Imperium, is regarded as a mid-tier technological power by galactic standards.

Culturally, Humans are renowned for their diversity and creativity, producing art, literature, music, and philosophy that have profoundly influenced other species. Their cultural exports and culinary traditions are highly prized, though it is their ancient artifacts that remain the most coveted treasures.

Role in the Galactic Community

As a fallen precursor race, Humanity is viewed with a mixture of awe and disdain. Their ancient legacy grants them a voice in galactic councils and a seat among the great powers. However, the true source of the Shikar Imperium’s influence lies in its formidable military. Emerging from the ashes of the Great Collapse, the Imperium was forged with the solemn vow of “Never Again.” As a result, every citizen is considered a reserve member of the military, ensuring the state’s readiness for conflict.

This militarized, rule-based society has frequently clashed with the chaotic Jiuda Conclaves and the equally martial Balteshen-Izar State. The last major conflict with the Balteshen-Izar State occurred in 5,513 GE, ending in a stalemate. Since then, the border between the two powers has been a hotbed of skirmishes and tensions.

Humanity’s closest ally is the Tilroth Commonwealth, a bond likely strengthened by the physiological and aesthetic similarities between Humans and the Zahex species. This alliance has fostered open borders, free trade, and even rumoured interbreeding, though recent edicts from the Imperium have prohibited such unions.

Notable Individuals

Immortal Emperor Anthonix Cyraeni

The most renowned figure in Human history, Emperor Anthonix Cyraeni has ruled the Shikar Imperium for over a millennium. His reign has left an indelible mark not only on Humanity but on the galaxy at large.

Emperor Koale Lusca Asvatos

Known as the First Emperor, Asvatos is credited with unifying Humanity and founding the Shikar Imperium in the aftermath of the Great Collapse.

Lieutenant Commander Kaia Marinoch

Commander Marinoch is the first publicly acknowledged member of the newly established V.I.P.E.R. Initiative. Entrusted with command of the Assured, the Imperium’s most advanced warship, she has been tasked with taming the lawless Opherian Expanse.
